Handcrafthurleys.com was founded by Daithi O'Regan in 2010. Handcrafted hurleys are produced by dedicated artisan hurley makers, of whom there are just over one hundred in Ireland. Such hurleys are highly appreciated because they can be customised to the particular needs of the end user. Further, the finishing takes account of the characteristics of each piece of wood (that is, it can take account of the "grain"). Every artisan hurley maker shows great pride in his hurley - many will, with enthusiasm, list the prominent county hurlers that come to them for hurleys. As handcrafted hurleys reflect important local variations in hurley design, they are also an important part of Ireland's cultural heritage. After lunching handcrafthurleys.com on RTE'S Dragons Den show in April 2010,we have a mobile unit for clubs and events,A new unit in Newcastlewest co.Limerick with all the hurley makers and related products.Handcrafthurleys now have a engraving machine for the gift trade .In 2011 handcrafthurleys got selected out of 800 business for Endeavour in which 14 companies were selected.Which led to getting selected for iGAP with Enterprise Ireland ,Daithi has been involved in hurling all his life ,playing club with Broadford in Co.Clare and Austin Stack's in Kerry and inter-county senior hurling with Kerry . Coaching teams as well as setting up a hurling club in a football area of Kerry .All came to starting handcrafthurleys after lookig at the problems getting good hurleys and waiting for them.
